COURTNEY WAREHAMTeacher-Librarian and Educator Thank you for reviewing my resume and online portfolio.
Teacher-LibrarianAugust 2008 - present
I have been running the Gordon J. Lau Elementary School Library since August of 2008. Although I am only there three days per week, I am responsible for meeting the library needs of about 750 patrons. The students receive standards based, bi-weekly library lessons that serve to provide information literacy skills and to extend classroom learning. I am a strong believer in collaborative teaching practices and strive to incorporate that process when possible. The fourth and fifth grade students are instructed using a technology-based library curriculum that will not only provide them with the skills to use the online resources available to them, but also to be technologically literate citizens who understand issues of safety and security.
Special Projects
• Creating library web pages to provide 24/7 access to resources at: https://gjles-sfusd-ca.schoolloop.com/library
• Entering all of the books in the library into the school's online catalog
• Creating a tween book blog, complete with my own book trailers at: www.courtneycrum.blogspot.com
• Creating and operating a leveled book room with multiple copies of high-quality literature
• Managing annual book project, through which students are able to publish their own hardcover books
• Running school Book Fair
• Fundraising to acquire Promethean technology for the school library

Teacher-LibrarianAugust 2009 - present
In August of 2009, I began working at John Yehall Chin Elementary-which is recognized as a distinguished school by the California Department of Education. The students come for weekly library visits, through which they are introduced to outstanding literature and critical information literacy skills. I work with the fourth and fifth graders in the computer lab to ensure they are also receiving a technology-based education that will pave way for success as 21st century learners.
Special Projects
• Built and maintained a website for the school at: https://chin-sfusd-ca.schoolloop.com/
• Automated library catalog so that all records can be managed and viewed electronically
• Reviewed, purchased and presented appropriate, student-centered library materials
• Created Resource Lists of topic-related materials such as literature supporting the Social Studies Curriculum
• Assisted with the school gardening project through ongoing tasks such as purchasing and processing gardening resources
• Coordinated Oliver Chin author visit and fundraiser for Chinese New Year
• Performed school library's inventory for the first time since the school's inception
• Managed fundraisers to acquire a SmartBoard for the school library
Teacher-LibrarianOctober 2001 - June 2008
Upon beginning my position at El Dorado, my educational career had been spent in the classroom. At the end of 2001, I re-opened the library, which had been closed the entire school year. Students flooded the library, which soon became a safe haven in a dangerous community. As well as running the library I was also the literacy specialist, ELD teacher, lead teacher for the after-school program, and health advocate. In order to draw families into the school community I organized ongoing student performances and events. To provide a safer, after school environment for students, I co-founded a non-profit named Direct Effect to raise money for arts, music and after-school programs when the district budgets were slashed.
Special Projects:
• Conceived, raised money for, and executed a program to bring internet to eight classrooms and the library.
• Designed and implemented a reading motivation program that led school to win Governor's Reading Award with a $5000 prize.
• Decorated for, set-up, and ran biannual book fair which brought thousands of dollars of revenue for the school and over a thousand new books for students as well as winning 3rd place in Scholastic's National Book Fair contest
• Coordinated yearly Read Across America Day event.
• Organized book donations and reading incentives for students through the Tzu Chi Foundation, RIF, and Read to Succeed.
• Created and conducted ongoing trainings to staff on designing differentiated, standards based curriculum, literacy skills, and behavior management systems.
WORK EXPERIENCE 3El Dorado Elementary
Teacher-LibrarianAugust 2011 - present
In order to earn a Teacher-Librarian credential, I needed to broaden the range of students with whom I was working and consequently interned at the library on the Ruth Asawa campus in San Francisco, which serves two different high schools: The School of the Arts, and the Academy of Arts and Sciences. Working in this library allowed me the opportunity to move away from fixed scheduling and to embrace project-based learning where students are able to work for larger periods of time. I assisted with the student librarians-both through the creation of usable training documents, and also through direct experience. Neither of these school campuses were using the district's School Loop websites and so I created a matching library site for each, which provides constant remote access to all of the most crucial library resources.
